Description

The State Fair of Texas (SFT) is seeking a high energy and personable seasonal Data Cable Technician to help end users and the IT Manager with pre-fair setup. The Data Cable Tech will be proficient at running temporary network cabling and terminating CAT6 Cabling.

As a pre-fair seasonal hire you will have a defined employment time period, ending on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

What you’ll do as a Data Cable Tech:

  • Recommend supplies for purchase to accomplish network cabling setup. We will provide tools and equipment.
  • Patch long distance CAT6 cables to reach ticket booths, and properly terminate jacks on both ends for seasonal setup.
  • Assist in setting up desktop computers and elements in ticket booths, coupon booths including network switches and test connections.
  • Perform Tier 1 IT Support with support of the Seasonal IT Specialist
  • With assistance, plug in aerial Ethernet Cables, to switches, ticket booths, gates, and scanning channels. Connect elements to nearby power outlet or via Power over Ethernet.
  • Assist with IT Setup Projects
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of CAT6 cabling and ethernet Jack building
  • Basic Troubleshooting of Computers
  • Basic understanding of networking
  • Ability to safely operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to take ownership of work, and able to work with little to no supervision
  • Good customer service orientation.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  High School diploma or equivalent is required, and the following is strongly preferred:
  • 6+ months of work experience in data cabling.

Requirements

  • Pass an employment and criminal background check.
  • Lift and/or pull up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Work inside and outside in various weather conditions as necessary to prepare for the State Fair at Fair Park in Dallas
  • In a few occasions, May need to run cables at heights up to 17′
  • Work mandatory overtime as required
  • Climb ladders and go under counters, desks as needed to reach IT elements.
  • Must have reliable transportation and cell phone.
  • Must have a driver’s license
