Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment. The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with all proceeds helping to preserve and improve Fair Park; underwrite museum, community, and scholarship programs for inner-city youth and students pursuing agricultural careers; and help improve State Fair operations. Job Description:

This position is responsible for the care of plants and associated materials for the State Fair of Texas.

Work Schedule:

Varies depending on events.

Duties:

Work with management and consultants to care for all plants and materials and greenhouse operation. Work with delivery, warehousing, and distribution of plant inventory and supplies; assist in the types and quantities of plants and materials to be purchased. Water, plant, prune, fertilize and control pests on all plants. Load and unload plants and materials. Able to work outside in various weather conditions.

Required Skills:

Have a basic knowledge of the general type of plants and proper atmospheres needed for each, planting practices and procedures, irrigation practices, fertilizer, plant disease, and pests. Also must have the ability to utilize a variety of negotiating, communication, and economic skills, work with others in a manner that most cost-effectively benefits the SFT. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and work effectively deal with time sensitive deadlines.
